The Left is going crazy again. And they love to compare things that aren’t comparable. Perhaps they need to take a course in logic as they constantly fail at it.
Of course the most recent use of false logic is comparing Secretary Clinton’s use of a private email server to the use of a personal email account by Ivonka Trump. The Left see no difference between the two actions. And brand all Republicans as hypocrites because there are no chants to “lock her up” against Ivonka Trump.
This isn’t hypocrisy. This isn’t tribalism of Republicans vs Democrats. This isn’t Red Team vs Blue Team. This isn’t Liberal Left vs Conservative Right. And this isn’t hypocrisy as the two events are not identical.
As a technologist I understand the differences. And since I have been an email server administrator I understand it far better than most. I will do my best to keep this in the terms a layman can understand but due to the nature of this subject some technological terms will be used.
There are a number of differences between what Secretary Hillary Clinton did and what has happened with Ivonka Trump. And there are similarities as well. But since the definition of hypocrisy is the practice of claiming to take a moral standard or belief to which ones own behavior does not conform. It will be plain that these two sounding similar events are very different from one another and thus does not fit the definition of hypocrisy.
Secretary Clinton used a private email server to send State Department classified emails during her tenure as Secretary of State. This bypassed the government servers entirely. In total there were 10’s of thousands of emails sent through her server.
The private email server was located in her home. The government IT department did not have any access to this equipment and it was managed by an IT staff hired by Hillary for Hillary.
What Ivonka Trump was using is a personal email account. The duration was just the last year. And no classified emails were sent on it. The server was actually hosted by Microsoft and not privately by her or her husband.
This is a huge difference technically speaking. And far more secure than Clinton’s private home based server.
The volume of emails sent is way different as well. 100’s compared to 10’s of thousands. And of course the fact that none of the emails sent by Ms. Trump were classified or endangered national security.
Secretary Clinton also did not turn over all the emails that her server sent. 1000’s were lost when she willfully had her hard drives destroyed. Yet Ms. Trump has turned over all the emails that she sent and did not willfully destroy the data in an attempt to hide criminal activities.
Additionally Secretary Clinton gave many of the emails she sent to the Clinton Foundation in a compleat violation of law and trust. But none of Ivonka Trump’s emails were sent to any foundation ran or owned by the Trump family.
These and many more technical points clearly show that the two events are no where near the same situation. Yes, on the surface they might sound like the same thing. But they are not. It does take a bit of educating yourself about the fact to know the difference.
As the investigation continues and if Ivonka Trump did send classified emails or willfully hid or deleted emails then she deserves to be prosecuted for it. But as it stands she has not done any of these things. She has only violated a minor White House ethics rule on the use of email. And this has been corrected already.
Know the facts before passing judgement. Educate yourself and do not remain ignorant. These two events aren’t the same and are very different in many aspects.
Which means there is no hypocrisy when I’m not shouting to “lock her up.”
