Leftist Lexicon Word of the Week

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the men and women of the FBI, namely because of the House Intelligence Committee and a little memo put together by Republican member Devin Nunes. The memo released this past Friday outlines a number of issues with a FISA warrant issued against the Donald Trump campaign, not the least of which being a little oopsie involving a questionable dossier that people like former FBI Director James Comey neglected to tell the FISA Court wasn’t fully vetted and was paid for by the Hillary Clinton campaign. You know, like happens to us every day.

As a result, the Left has become a vocal proponent of the FBI. The fact the memo was even released was an affront to national security and would lead to everything from enemies getting our secrets to the New England Patriots winning the Super Bowl. But a day or so removed from Memo Day and nothing like that has happened.

However, what has happened is the FBI is undergoing scrutiny for what is perceived to be pretty shady dealings. That, and the latest entry into the Leftist Lexicon.

the FBI

What the Left believes it means – a group of devoted public servants who are being unfairly attacked by the Trump Administration and the Right to divert attention from the Trump/Russia investigation

What it really means – a group of public servants caught between duty and bad leadership

This is one point where I agree with the Left. The FBI rank and file are the backbone of our law enforcement community. They deserve to be held in high esteem, especially when they aren’t guilty of the things their leaders are being accused of doing.

Now, if you’re expecting a big “but” here, you’re right. There is a huge but here, and I cannot lie. The rank and file who are involved in the FISA court abuse are not the kind of people who should be in the FBI. However, they should be in Fort Leavenworth. One of the important decisions that any leader and his or her subordinates have to make is whether a particular decision is a worthy goal. The more honest you are, the tougher the decision becomes, and vice versa.

This is where members of the FBI’s leadership, including the aforementioned Mr. Comey, have a reason to be sweating more than Michael Moore running the first quarter mile of the Boston Marathon. Even if you are the top cop in the country, you are subject to our laws (Just ask all the Leftists who want Trump impeached.)

Which brings up a troubling point for Leftists. If they believe the President isn’t above the law, why would they believe the FBI (which is in the Executive Branch along with the President) should be? The Nunes memo lays out some pretty significant and damaging charges that even Lady Justice can see have some heft to them, contrary to the charges the Left have against Trump which are flimsier than a toilet paper negligee. If they want to hold the high ground on Trump, they can’t overlook the current issue with the FBI.

They can’t, but they will.

Another problem the Left has to contend with is their messaging related to the Nunes memo. In the past two weeks alone, it’s been portrayed as a bunch of lies, a “nothingburger”, a political hit job, and a threat to national security. And that’s just from Nancy Pelosi! To put it mildly, the Left has more faces on this issue than, well, Nancy Pelosi. So, when Leftists come out and say they support the FBI, one has to wonder if they’re telling the truth.

Consider just a year or so ago, these same Leftists voiced support for Black Lives Matter, a group with leaders and members whose attitudes towards law enforcement are less than favorable. In fact, some have even said they want to kill police officers.

Yeah, not exactly making a solid case today for backing law enforcement.

The Left is getting behind the FBI for political expediency and cover. As cynical as that sounds, it’s the only logical explanation. On the other hand, Republicans are staying consistent with their “Back the Blue” message. This may seem counter-intuitive given what appears to be happening, but the truth is they aren’t attacking the entire FBI, just the parts that have betrayed their duty to serve the country and its laws. No matter what these particular agents are alleged to have done, it doesn’t tarnish the entire FBI, just like a few bad police officers don’t tarnish the entire police force.

Of course, the Left doesn’t want you to remember that. They want you to ignore the misdeeds of the bad players and get caught up in the positive feelings we’re supposed to feel towards police officers. But without calling out the bad players, we can never get to a point where the good players are honored and held in high esteem.

Thank you to the men and women of the FBI. Just know some of us out here are rooting for you to have a brighter tomorrow once the rats within your ranks are brought to justice today.

Ya’ll Don’t Comey Back Now, Ya Hear

What a difference a week makes!

We return to the thrilling days of yesterweek and to the story of now-former FBI Director James Comey. After Congressional testimony where Comey looked more out-of-sorts than Gary Busey on a day ending in y, Democrats were up in arms. Comey was incompetent and was responsible for Hillary Clinton losing the 2016 election! (Little did we know the FBI had so much control over Hillary’s lack of campaigning in key states!) Comey was compromised and he needed to go, like, yesterday!

Fast forward to yesterday afternoon. President Donald Trump fired Comey after another brutal day of Congressional testimony after it was clear he was more of a liability than an asset. Who knew Trump had a history of firing people? And Democrats reacted by…claiming Trump fired Comey because he was getting too close to the truth with a probe into whether Trump colluded with Russia to help him win the 2016 election.

If you ever wonder why I stopped being a Leftist, this is why. Keeping up with the day-to- day narratives requires either flexible morals, the attention span of a mayfly with ADD, or a flow chart on a dry erase board. One week, Comey is horrible. The next, he’s a valiant warrior for truth, justice, and the People for the American Way (a wholly owned subsidiary of our good friend, Uncle George Soros.) Even Leftists are having a hard time keeping up with the narrative, if Stephen Colbert’s recent audience reaction to news of Comey’s firing is any indication. (Spoiler Alert: Colbert didn’t expect cheering and had to tell his audience how to feel about the news. Hmmm…maybe Colbert has more experience being a news anchor than we thought…)

There is an easy way to cut through the crap, though: stay consistent to your beliefs. Granted, that’s hard for the Left to do, but for the rest of us, it’s not that hard. I’m on record as saying I felt Comey wasn’t doing a good job under the spotlight, and I still feel that way. In fact, I still think he may be angling for something else just like Joe Wilson, husband of CIA Barbie Valerie Plame, was. We’ll see what comes of Comey now that he’s out of a job. If my hunch is correct, he will show his true colors and give the Trump Administration more fits simply by existing, and the Democrats and Leftists will eat it up.

Just a word of warning, Mr. Comey. Remember the last time you saw either Wilson or Plame? Neither do most of us. That’s the fate that awaits you if you try to curry favor with the Left after being fired. They will chew you up and spit you out faster than feces flavored chewing gum. These fairweather fiends will never let you into their inner circles no matter what you do for them. You are a means to their ends, and that’s all you’ll ever be.

But give the Left time. They’ll pull another Jeckyl and Hyde act soon enough.

The Strange Case of James Comey (or With Friends Like These…)

Michael Savage likes to say liberalism is a mental disorder. After seeing the Left turn on FBI Director James Comey with all the stability of Sybil on PCP, he might be onto something. Or on something, whatever the case may be.

The Left has a love/hate relationship with Comey. Sometimes, like when he declined to pursue charges against Hillary Clinton over her private email server, the Left loved him. When Comey did something they didn’t like, like announcing the FBI would be reopening the case against Clinton, the Left loved to hate him. Comey became the Left’s favorite piñata when it suited them, but he’s gotten back into their good graces recently by rejecting Donald Trump’s claims former President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower during the campaign. Now that he’s anti-Trump, the Left loves Comey again.

Maybe I was a bit off with the Sybil reference. Sybil was far more well-adjusted.

Some conservatives were in a similar situation as the Left in that their opinions on Comey depended on what he did for them politically. However, a good chunk of the Right saw Comey as an inept bumbler whose decision-making skills made Charlie Sheen look like Solomon. When the FBI Director tells you he can’t prosecute a Presidential candidate because she’s more famous or powerful than you or me, that’s the sign he can’t hack the job he has.

Now that he’s being more of a pawn than a prosecutor, Comey’s going to get more attention from both sides of the aisle, and not for a good reason. The Left will use him as a meat shield to deflect even the most credible of concerns over whether President Obama tapped the lines at Trump Tower. The Right will use him as a scapegoat for enabling the Left.

And I will use him as a target for mockery.

Comey appears to have gone to the Leona Helmsley School of Law, given how he treated Hillary with more kid gloves than a Minnesota daycare center in January. The fact he even raised the “she’s Hillary Clinton” defense is an indication he has been compromised to the point of ineffectiveness. He should have been kicked to the curb back in July 2016, but as we’ve seen with the Obama Administration, incompetence was a resume enhancer.

I get the feeling Comey is trying to play to whichever crowd will lavish him with praise. If he gets invited to parties by parroting the Left, he will be further to the Left than David Brock. If that party scene dries up, he’ll come back to the Right and say and do whatever they want him to do. In other words, James Comey is the FBI equivalent of John McCain.

But eventually neither side will want to be seen with him, and then he’ll be left trying to reconcile the multiple positions he will have taken to that point. And he will fail. The problem with trying to please everyone is you wind up pleasing no one, not even yourself. Comey seems to be in that phase right now, but his value is diminishing. If you stand with truth and integrity, you will gain friends and enemies, but both will be the right ones.

Hypocrisy Much?

With Loretta Lynch accepting the FBI’s report on Hillary Clinton’s email server, the whitewash…I mean investigation is over. And now the Left says we should all let it go. After all, if the FBI didn’t choose to pursue charges against Hillary, doesn’t that mean we should drop it?

Yeah, about that. There was a recent case where another legal authority gave another guilty party a serious break, and the Left lost their mind. (I would use the plural here, but that would create a logical paradox.) In that case, the system was fundamentally flawed and it was outrageous that a guilty party could get off with such a light reprimand for such a horrible crime.

Are the cobwebs clearing yet, Leftists? Maybe this name will jog your memory.

Brock Turner.

That’s right, kids. Brock Turner, the Stanford Swimmer who was sentenced to a six month jail sentence and three years of probation. Granted, it was a whole month ago, so you might have forgotten the squawking points by now.

Here’s the thing. Hillary Clinton broke federal law. Regardless of whether the FBI decided to press charges, the crimes still happened. And, no, relying on the incompetence defense doesn’t help you here. It would be like…oh I don’t know…having your father complain about how you stopped eating as a result of your trial. It only makes you look worse than if you had just decided not to defend the indefensible.

Am I implying Brock Turner and Hillary Clinton are the same? Nope. I’m stating it. Hillary Clinton and Brock Turner are the same. Full stop. No equivocation. No caveats. They are the same. They are both criminals who have been allowed far more leniency than they deserve given the crimes committed, far more leniency than an average American would.

And only one of them is running for President.

Above the Law

The Clinton’s sit like Kings of old. They are the law and they above it. This has been seen in the past. And we see it again with Hillary Clinton now.

The FBI has stated the facts of the case. She did send 110 emails that contained classified information. She willingly admitted to deleting emails. This is obstruction of justice and destroying evidence. The accused doesn’t get to decide what evidence is relevant or not in any investigation. Her private email servers could have been hacked by unknown 3rd parties. And many more emails have been retroactively declared classified.

Yet the FBI states they will not press charges against Hillary Clinton. Why not? Because she and her staff, although extremely careless, they did not act intentionally to break the law.

The very idea infuriates me. If I were to destroy potential evidence because I personally thought it wasn’t relative to the investigation. I would be charged for that crime. If I were to inadvertently leak classified information in an insecure email. I would loose security clearance, and be facing criminal charges. Even if I were to inadvertently speed while driving carelessly. I would have a ticket, be getting fined, and having all kinds of repercussions.

But not a Clinton. Not the Queen of the Democratic Party. She is untouchable. The laws of our nation simply do not apply to Hillary Clinton. Besides what difference does it make?

Ignorance of the law and one’s intent have never been excuses or justifications for violating the law. If a Republican presidential candidate had done this, charges would be filed. But Hillary Clinton gets out of jail free.

How She Did It

With the release of the House report on Benghazi, it became clear Hillary Clinton got away with it. From lying about the reason the Benghazi attacks occurred to lying about her private email server to lying about being competent enough to be Secretary of State, the levels of deceit are pretty deep and provided just enough cover to get people to get Benghazi fatigue.

Anyone who watched Bill and Hillary operate might have seen this scenario play out before. When they are faced with scandal, the Clintons have a pretty standard response: ignore it, lie about it, admit to it, give the impression they are cooperating, complain about cooperating and the partisanship behind the inquiry, letting facts dribble out here and there, claim they’ve fully cooperated, and telling people it’s time to move on.

Whitewater? Check.

Monica Lewinsky? Check.

The Clinton Foundation? Check.

Benghazi? Check.

It doesn’t hurt that the Clintons have the media and occasional fall guys/willing supporters to cushion the fall. When Ambassador Chris Steven’s sister came out after the House report and said Hillary was not to blame for Benghazi (while repeating the discredited claim Republicans cut funding to the State Department), the game was over. Hillary got away with Benghazi.

Ambassador Chris Stevens could not be reached for comment.

Adding a new layer to this matter is the fact Bill Clinton met with Attorney General Loretta Lynch recently in Phoenix. If Hillary hadn’t been under FBI investigation, it might be as innocuous as they want us to believe. And if the FBI hadn’t demanded no pictures and no recording of what was being talked about and if Lynch hadn’t stepped aside from the investigation into Hillary after the meeting, I might have believed them.

There is another culprit in helping Hillary beat the Benghazi rap: Republicans. A favorite talking point of the Left is Republicans had 8 (now 9) investigations into Benghazi and Hillary was found not to be responsible for what happened. And Republicans…let that be the narrative. Even Trey Gowdy, a former prosecutor, held his tongue when it was clear Hillary was lying and obstructing the investigation.

Just as she did the previous 8 times.

Gowdy, to his credit, tried to be above partisanship in his comments on the report. He’s smart enough to remember what happened to Kenneth Starr when he took on the Clintons. But when you’re dealing with political animals, when your opponents are intent to win by any means necessary, Marquess of Queensberry rules simply don’t apply.

No matter how much we gnash our teeth or blog about it from this point forward, Hillary Clinton beat us over Benghazi. And unless we get our acts together she will skate on her email server.

Breakin’ the Law

It’s official. The State Department has released a report showing that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton violated Federal rules and regulations while using her private email server for government business. And those rules and regulations carry the full force of Federal Law.

Hillary Clinton has broken Federal Law. If it was you, good reader, you would be arrested and in jail awaiting trial in a Federal Court. But a Clinton doesn’t go to jail. They run for President of the United States.

We are now at the “wait and see” period. Does the Department of Justice and the FBI press charges and arrest Hillary Clinton as they should or do they just let her go free?

If charges are pressed and she is arrested, it would be the end of her political career. The White House bid would be over. Leaving Bernie Sanders to be the nominee unless this is what causes Joe Biden to enter the race. He is more popular among the Democrats.

If no charges are pressed and she is not arrested. Then Hillary will walk away from being guilty of a Federal Crime. Proving once again that the Clinton’s are above the law. She could end up being pardoned by Obama before he leaves office, thus preventing a Republican President from having those files charged and having Hillary arrested and tried.

Who Watches the iWatch-men?

It was a battle of two heavyweights. In the blue corner, the United States government. In the, well, equally blue corner, Apple. And the tech world couldn’t microwave popcorn fast enough to keep up with the exciting twists and turns.

For those of you who haven’t heard, the FBI wanted Apple to break into an iPhone previously owned by one of the San Bernardino shooters, stating they wanted the information from the phone in case there was news about impending terrorist attacks. Geez, everyone knows that sort of thing gets sent into the Cloud these days…

Anyway, Apple refused, citing their belief the government would use whatever they created to hack into one iPhone as a “skeleton key” for other iPhones. As a result, the government sued Apple. Then, miracle of miracles, the government figured out a way to get into the iPhone (i.e. they got a 4 year old to do it) and suddenly dropped the suit against Apple. So, win-win, right?

Not so much. On the one hand, Apple still has the proprietary technology used in iPhones, but now they know the government has figured out a way to circumvent that technology. And, surprise surprise, the government isn’t going to let Apple have information on the security flaws with the iPhone.

On the other hand, the federal government attempted to force a major company to help them with a terrorism investigation. At first, it was a request, but once the government lawyered up, it turned into an attempt at forced compliance. But as long as it was for national security, it makes it okay, right?

Wellllll…that’s where the problem lies for me. After 9/11, government found a new excuse to take more tax dollars to fund pet projects by slapping a “national security issue” sticker on proposed spending. Want your local First Responders to have a Sherman Tank for weekends? It’s national security! Want to bail out the airline industry, which was already failing before 9/11? It’s national security! Heck, I’m surprised the National Endowment for the Arts didn’t try to get more funding for itself by claiming bad art is linked to national security.

Regardless, the Apple standoff showed us there is a fine line between freedom and security. I’m not a big fan of getting attacked by terrorists, but I’m also not a big fan of government using the threat of a terrorist attack to justify further overreach into our freedoms. Especially when it’s clear the government may not have needed Apple’s cooperation in the first place. So, why did the government go through the motions of this Kabuki theater?

Control.

Once you give the government a little bit of control, they aren’t too keen on giving it back. That’s why it’s important to use some critical thinking when a situation like what happened to Apple arises. What happens from here is dependent upon the morals and ethics of the government.

In other words, we’re screwed.
