Why we can’t be like the others

There is always the question after a gun related tragedy on why can’t the United States have gun laws similar to fill in the blank. Generally, some nation in Europe, or all of Europe collectively. And of course now due to the Olympics, it is South Korea as the example.

The answer to this question is very simple. The United States isn’t any of these other locations. We do not share a common culture or heritage with any of these other nations.

We are far removed from our colonial roots. Our culture and heritage is unique to the United States. And the right to keep and bear arms is part of that culture and heritage. The United States is a free Republic unlike any other in the world before or sense.

That is why we cannot have gun laws that are like some other country’s. There solutions just do not work in the United States. Unless of course your goal is to transform America into some other kind of government. Otherwise the American solution will have to be uniquely American.

Modern English 2nd Amendment

The 2nd amendment to the Constitution reads as follows:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

This was the language used by our 18th Century Founding Fathers. So let us update the language a bit into the modern era so it can be undertood even by a 5th grader. Since apparently the majority of people are ignorant of the meaning of the Constitution.

The 2nd amendment rewritten in Moderen English:

Since we are not creating a standing army with the Constitution, we must rely on every able bodied person to insure that our nation remains free and secure against all who would attempt to take those freedoms and rights away from us, including ourselves. Therefore everyone must be able to have and keep any weapon necessary to protect such freedoms and rights. We are also preventing Congress, and the States, from makings laws against having weapons.

Nightclub Terror

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, survivors, families, and the community of Orlando in the wake of the terrorist attack on Sunday.

We must keep this in focus. This was a terrorist attack by a pro-ISIS supporting Muslim. And that the Quran’s statements against homosexuality are very well documented and confirmed. This was a crime motivated by pure hatred.

The Left always ignores all other factors and starts pointing the fingers at the gun used. And starts calling for a ban on “assault weapons”.

An “assault weapon” is a misnomer. An assault is a verb, it’s an action that a person does. It is also a crime. While a weapon is any tool used to make any violent action easier. And a weapon can be anything. A gun, a knife, a rock, a screwdriver, and even a spork. So an “assault weapon” is any weapon used in an assault. It is NOT a class or type of firearm.

The 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution is quite clear. The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The gun, be it a pistol or a semi-automatic rifle is not the problem.

The problem is Muslim terrorists, home-grown or otherwise. The problem is the person pulling the trigger. Omar Mateen in this case. And since he is also among the dead we may never know all of the details in this case.

From the news articles coming out it is speculated that he was bipolar, but not diagnosed. And he was known to the FBI but not deemed a threat or under investigation, or prohibited from acquiring arms at the time of this crime.

These point to problems with our mental health system and with our vetting of potential home-grown terrorist threats. Not a problem with guns.

In fact, by state law, the nightclub was a gun-free zone. Like places of most mass shootings where law abiding citizens will be unarmed. So adding more anti-gun (gun control) laws isn’t going to help. Terrorists and criminals do not follow the law anyway. One more isn’t going to change that.

If the nightclub wasn’t part of a gun-free zone, there could have been a chance that a patron was armed. And that armed patron could have prevented this crime from from reaching the level it did.

This attack touches me deeply on several levels. For those that aren’t aware, this last weekend was a “gay pride” weekend across the country. And the Orlando nightclub was Orlando’s best gay bar.

I am a strong advocate for the 2nd Amendment. So when it is unjustly attacked I do stand to defend it.

We need to see and acknowledge the dangers that Islam presents to humanity and freedom. It is not a religion like all the others, it is not a religion of peace or love. But not all Muslims practice all of its tenets.

And most importantly there are two people that I care about that could have been among the victims at the nightclub. My transgender child Jen who lives in Florida and is a strong advocate for LGBTQ rights. And my gay cousin Todd who visits Florida frequently. They are the two most important reasons this cowardly attack affects me on a personal level.

Gun Taxation

I am a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment. Our nation’s founders knew all to well what happens when free men can no longer be armed. They loose their freedoms. And the 2nd Amendment was put in place to assure that our free republic could be kept.

But we have those that hate our freedoms. They constantly seek to redefine what our founders wrote. Making unjust claim after claim. Attempting to legislate our freedoms away one by one. And they are succeeding.

That 2nd Amendment keeps coming up. The progressive hate it the most. An armed citizenry can abolish a government, by force, if it becomes a destructive to the liberties it was ordained to protect.

So how does the progressive liberal deal with such an issue? They turn to their favored weapon. Taxation. If they cannot outlaw guns, they will tax them out of existence.

Taxation only has two functions. The first is to raise revenue. And the second is to control behavior. We see this used more and more by the liberal agenda. From taxes on candy, soda pop, tobacco. To the speed and red light cameras that are springing up everywhere in our nation.

Now there are those taking the advise that Hillary Clinton gave back in 1993. She purposed that instead of outlawing gun ownership, which violates the Constitution. That there be steep taxes placed on firearms and fees on gun dealers instead.

The Emerald City, Seattle WA, was the first to enact taxation as a means of gun control. Imposing a $25 tax on all guns in the city. And imposing a tax of 2-5 cents on every round of ammunition. This tax went into effect at the first of the year. It has already caused at least one gun dealer to leave the city.

And earlier this month the Governor of the US Territory of the Northern Marian Islands announced their new gun tax law that went into effect. It imposes a $1000 tax on guns. And the governor stated how it should be the “role model” for all states.

Lastly, we have Cook County, IL. The home of Chicago, and one of the most corrupt jurisdictions in the Union. Has also passed a taxation on guns and ammunition similar to that passed by the City of Seattle. Cook County’s tax goes into effect at the first of June.

These will may be the first to walk down this path. But they will not be the last. The liberal agenda calls for an unarmed citizenry. And since it cannot be enacted by banning guns due to the Constitution. It can be circumvented in the way of taxes. Making guns unaffordable to the general population of law abiding citizens.

Gun Control by Executive Order

An open letter to the President of the United States of America

Today President Obama issued several Executive Orders on gun control. The reason, the same one he has always used, Congress has failed to act.

Let me assure you Mr President, Congress has not failed to act. Congress is, at least in this case, doing it’s job well. Voicing the Will of the People that elected them as their representatives.

In your speech Mr President you stated that the member of Congress are more concerned with getting re-elected than they are with passing gun control laws.

This is a half-truth. Yes, members of Congress are concerned with getting re-elected and that is precisely why they have NOT passed any gun control laws. They are listening to their constituents who do not want more government intrusion in their lives.

The majority of people in this country are not who you think they are Mr President. The majority do not want more gun control laws which clearly violate the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution. And Congress does listen to them, but not to you on this matter.

Fortunately those Executive Orders you signed today can easily be undone by the next president with another stroke of the pen. They will be short lived and many may be simply ignored.

This will not deter you though Mr President. You will continue to bypass Congress and attempt to rule by decree using Executive Orders. But this is still a Republic despite your efforts in rebuilding the nation into something else. And we still stand on Liberty for all.

Another Mass Shooting

First of all. This is a tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. Make no mistake though, this is not “common place”.

For something to be “common place” it must happen with frequency and it must happen nearly everywhere. Most mass shootings are far from being frequent and still further from happening everywhere. This is why a mass shooting makes national news. If it were “common place”, like car accidents, a mass shooting in California wouldn’t be known in Iowa. As we would have our own to deal with instead of another location’s.

This is also not an issue about gun control. And needing stricter laws on gun ownership. Or blaming gun manufactures for gun violence. Those are all steps by the left to slowly erode the 2nd Amendment, which they hate, and remove guns from the citizenry. It’s harder for an unarmed citizenry to rebel after all.

Although the details of this latest mass shooting out of California are not fully yet known as I write this posting. I am most certain that the shooter will be mentally unstable. We used to have asylums for people who are not mentally sound and who would hurt themselves or others. But it was deemed to be politically incorrect by, again the Liberal left, to lock these dangerous people away.

This is mental health epidemic and what we are seeing proves the point that the mentally unstable should be locked away so they do not hurt others or themselves. We cannot go back to the poor treatment that these people received in the past decades but we can take them off the streets. And we should.

Campus Massacre

The mass shooting at the Umpqua Community College in Roseburg Oregon is a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, the families, and the community. President Obama has politicized the event and called it routine. What is routine about this tragedy and other mass shootings is that most happen in “gun free zones.” This is where honest and law-abiding citizens cannot and do not carry weapons. Even our military posts are “gun free”.

The shooter in this case was a 24 year old male. He was heavily armed with 3 pistols, 1 rifle, body armor and plenty of ammunition. This does show his actions were planned out in advance and was not a random act. Not much else has been officially released about him, there are a lot of speculations and hearsay being said but I’m not going to add to that fire.

We already have a lot of gun control laws on the books. They aren’t working. We do not need any more. In fact we need less of them. I come from a very pro-gun family. Many of my family all have permits to carry weapons and do so. If the community college had any students or facility who were carrying weapons and was not a “gun free zone” the killer would have either picked an easier target or would not have had so many victims. Since he had the free ability to walk from one building to another, harming as he went.

Anyone who would murder another human being is mentally unstable. Even if it is only temporary. Criminals do not follow the laws. They will obtain weapons any way possible. Legal or not. They will have weapons where they are not allowed to have them. How does more gun control laws prevent this from happening? It doesn’t. It doesn’t make any logical sense at all, but it does tug at the heart strings and the emotions.

So think before you begin to react to this violent crime. It was and is a crime. It was and is a tragedy. But in every case where there is violence and the weapon of choice is a firearm, they get the blame. Bombs are not blamed in bombings, cars are not blamed in car crashes. Humans commit crimes not objects.

The Charleston Shooting

In the wake of the tragedy that has fallen on Charleston South Carolina and the nation as a whole where a disturbed young man shot and killed 9 parishioners at a Bible meeting this week. The young man’s motive has been said to be that he wanted to start a race war. This is deeply troubling and a sad turn of events for our Nation.

The liberals of course see this as an opportunity to ride the emotions and force changes to this great nation to weaken it even further and make it more like other “advanced countries” of the world. The United States was formed to be One Out of Many. Not one like everyone else. This is not a gun control issue other than some of the parishioners should have been armed themselves as the shooter reloaded 5 times during his attack. Had one or more of the parishioners been armed, we would have had a lot fewer deaths in this tragedy.

Also there is the call for South Carolina to remove the Confederate flag that flies at the capital. The Confederate flag was not created as a symbol of hate, despite being used by the Democrats that wanted slavery in the South. The Confederate flag symbolizes States Rights. Any other use or meaning is a corruption of the original intent of the symbol. For South Carolina it is their heritage. The national president of the NAACP has called for its removal since it has been used as a symbol of hate. And that’s the justification. That could be used to remove the US flag from poles as well as some see it as a symbol of hate. I’m sure the liberals would enjoy removing the US flag.

No this tragic event in Charleston is not about needing strict gun control or about removing the Confederate flag. It’s about an act of murder by a lone individual. And as the families of the victims of this tragedy have expressed, there is a need of forgiveness to Dylann Roof. They are expressing true Christian love to the man who committed a horrible crime. But one he still should be punished for by man’s justice.

Stand Your Ground

There are cries now by the low-information people in the wake of the Zimmerman trial verdict to call for an end to the Stand Your Ground law in Florida and elsewhere. This is of course a mistake. The Stand Your Ground law of Florida prevented a double tragedy from happening.

Without this law. George Zimmerman would be spending the rest of his life in jail for the murder of Trayvon Martin. Or he may even be on death row facing his own execution. Thus 2 lives and 2 families would be torn apart. Or the other senario would have been Trayvon Martin on trial going to prison and possibly death row for the murder of George Zimmerman after bashing his head into the concrete sidewalk.

Again both of these senarios creates a double tragedy. The stand your ground law prevents this from occuring. As any individual faced with a no-retreat dangerous situation can use deadly force to save themselves from harm.

Stand your ground laws do not make it easy for a person to committ murder at will. They are very specific in the language used. And if challenged, one must prove before a jury that the use of deadly force was justified. Otherwise you just committed murder and will face the just punishment for taking the life of another man.

The stand your ground laws are not to blame for the death of Trayvon Martin. His tragic death was the end result of him pinning and bashing George Zimmerman’s head into the concrete sidewalk. Giving no choice but to use deadly force.

Zimmerman Trial

As George Zimmerman’s trial for murder wraps up. The world waits and watches. But make no mistake, this trial is not about gun rights. The right to self-defence. No this trial is purely racially motivated. Prior to President Obama stepping into the picture. The local police department considered it a non-incident. No charges were filed. It was a simple open and shut case of self-defence.

But because Mr Martin was a young black man. And Mr Zimmerman was not. It becomes as racial issue. Had Mr Zimmerman been a black man defending himself from a white young thug. Then this would not have gone to trial. The President would not have said a word about it. Other than commending the blackman for defending himself and his neighborehood agaisnt thugs. And no trial would not be ending with the world sitting on the edge of their seats.

As this trials final remarks are made and the jury goes to cast its verdict. The outcome will be far reaching. Racially and also affecting gun ownership as well. And it doesn’t matter which way it ends either … riots will errupt if George Zimmerman is found to be innocent of the charges. And if he is guilty it opens up the path for thugs of all races to attack neighorhood watches without worrying about being shot and killed.
