Pleaded Guilty and Keeps Her Job

A former First lady of Iowa was arrested, charged, pleaded guilty to, and fined for public intoxication during the Iowa State Fair. She is currently a top paid assistant attorney general for the State of Iowa.

The Iowa Attorney General is Democrat Tom Miller. The former First lady is Democrat Mari Culver. And this is a partisan political issue without a doubt.

If the guilty former First lady had been a Republican working for the State. There would have been an immediate call for her resignation especially after she pleaded guilty. But since she is a fellow Democrat, the Attorney Generals office spokesman Geoff Greenwood is quoted in the Des Moines Register as saying that this is a personal matter that does not involve our office, we have no comment.

So Mari Culver should step up and do the right thing and resign. Tom Miller should also do the right thing and accept the resignation. But I doubt either of them will do the right thing.
