I grew up in the era of hand written rough drafts. These were then typed up on either a typewriter or a simple word processor. Printed out with a dot-matrix printer.
So it’s only natural for me to begin these posts the same way. Hand writing them out before transferring them to the blog via a computer.
Yes it’s a bit old fashioned, but it does work. I am not always in a place where it is convenient to whip out an electronic device to take notes or do heavy writing. And the smaller the screen of the device available, the harder it is to type on it.
But I always have pen and paper available with me and that makes it easier to write nearly anywhere. This method has drawbacks as well since lighting is a factor. No method is perfect.
So for my post tomorrow, I’m just going to post the images taken of the paper hand written draft. That will make coping and pasting the verbiage impossible which would be a drawback. But it does make a nice nostalgic look to it.
Normally every post on this blog is sent to Twitter which should also automatically sent it to Facebook. However some time ago Facebook made a change and that broke the connection to Twitter.
We have attempted to regain that link but it is not working at this time. And requests to Twitter have basically been ignored by Twitter. Perhaps because the majority of posts from this blog are conservative in nature and Twitter is known to silence conservative voices.
For right now we do not have a workable solution to get the posts automatically to Facebook. But we will attempt to get them now to Instagram which is a popular social media outlet. And one that is increasing in popularity as well.
Maybe this will help with our circulation and we can have more readers to our site.
Hello good readers. We have created an official Twitter account for the blog to separate it out from the owner or authors personal Twitter accounts.
You can now follow the blog via Twitter @Blog_SAB. We encourage everyone to follow us to keep updated on new posts, comments, and the latest happenings with the blog.
We are also working on building a Facebook page as well. This will just be informational, you will not be able to post comments to the Facebook page. All comments should be posted directly to the blog itself.
We have settled on a new theme that will be around for a while at least. But you never know sometimes a new theme comes along and it is a must have but we don’t see that happening right now. So this is the theme of choice for the time being.
We did try out a theme that was Twitter-like in nature but it had some issues so we decided to remove it. But we have now created an “Activity” section which is Twitter-like but only for our users. A place to talk about the blog and interact more than just the posts themselves.
To use this Activity stream feature you must be a member of the site. All it takes is a sign-up. You can also sign up for our newletter which will alert you on a daily basis if there are new blog posts. The Activity stream itself is handled separately.
Well if you haven’t noticed we have changed the theme around some here on “Something about Everything.” The main theme has been changed to mimic that of popular social media sites. And we have a dedicated mobile theme now as well.
Please note that in the mobile theme you will not see any of the sidebar information. To view that on a mobile device you will have to switch over to the desktop version of the site.
In the future we hope to have a userbased theme switcher so each user can choose the theme for their own personal taste.
Hello and welcome again to “Something About Everything”. For the next few months we will be conducting a Presidential Straw Poll open to any of our readers. First time or long time. No subscription necessary but if you aren’t a subscriber we highly suggest subscribing so you can be advised of future updates.
You can find the Presidential Straw Poll to the right in our handy sidebar. As well as the subscription sign up located below the poll as well.
Thanks again for reading!
Who do you support for President of the United States?
I really don’t like spiral notebooks. Here I am on a blog talking about ancient methods of writing. But I do like to write.
At least half of my posts here are written as rough drafts on good old paper. Using a fountain pen no less. I like how smoothly the ink flows compared to other pen types.
And yes right now I’ve got this beat-up spiral notebook that I’ve been using lately. The metal spiral is a little warped so it can wrinkle pages. Tearing pages out is always a mess with little bits of paper everywhere.
Even with the perforated edges there is little change of being able to quickly remove a sheet along it. That edge helps only to clean up the page after it’s been removed.
I do write rough drafts digitally as well. Generally in a plain text editor of sometype. Since I use multiple operating systems it can vary as to which editor I am using. Any formatting that needs to be done is taken care of directly in the WordPress editor once the draft is moved over.
But since I have a few of these spiral notebooks laying around. I’m going to use them up by writing any rough drafts in them first.
I still don’t like them though. Especially when the spiral spine gets damaged or bent. And that happens so easily.
